In 1963, Preuben Munster Football Club became one of the 16 founding members of the Bundesliga due to its excellent performance. However, in one season of the Bundesliga, Preuben Munster ranked second to last and was ultimately relegated to the second division. In 1978, due to financial difficulties and tax fraud allegations from the management, the club was relegated again to the amateur league.
In 2011, the club won the championship of the regional league's western group, successfully promoting to the 3. Liga. This marked the first time in five years that Preußen Münster entered the third tier of German football. In the 2013-14 season, the club finished sixth, defeating St. Pauli from the 2.
