The Portugal national football team (abbreviated as "Portugal", in English: Portugal national football team) was established in 1914 and is managed by the Portuguese Football Federation as the national level football team.
The Portugal national football team's World Cup journey began at the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, where they made their debut and won third place, with legendary player Eusébio scoring 9 goals to win the tournament's Golden Boot. The team then experienced a 20-year low, returning to the World Cup stage only in 1986, where they were eliminated in the group stage, and again faltering in the group stage in 2002. A turning point came in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where Portugal ultimately secured fourth place.
The European Championship has witnessed Portugal's continued brilliance: the team has successfully advanced from the group stage a record nine consecutive times, surpassing the traditional top five in Europe. In 2012, they also emerged from the 'Group of Death' that included Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. During their nine European Championship journeys, they reached the semifinals five times and won their first major tournament by defeating France in 2016, which earned them a spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup. Additionally, the team has twice claimed the UEFA Nations League title (2019, 2023).
