Team Introduction

Celta de Vigo Football Club (abbreviated as "Celta", English name: Real Club Celta de Vigo), founded in 1923, is a professional football club located in Vigo, Galicia, Spain.

The club's current name is derived from the Celts, a people who once inhabited the area of Celta. Celta has a rivalry with another Galician club, Deportivo La Coruña, and matches between the two are referred to as the "Galician Derby."

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the team was praised by the Spanish media as the "European Celta" for its outstanding performance in European competitions. The team reached the Copa del Rey final in 2001, where they lost 1-3 to Zaragoza in Seville.

On June 3, 2012, Celta returned to La Liga after a five-year absence. In their first season back in the top flight, they secured 17th place on the final day by defeating RCD Espanyol 1-0, avoiding relegation to the Segunda División.
