Sassuolo Football Club (abbreviated as "Sassuolo", English name: Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio) was founded in 1920 and is located in Sassuolo, Emilia-Romagna. It is a professional football club in Italy, nicknamed "Green Barcelona". Currently, it competes in Serie A and is one of the few teams from non-capital cities that have been active in Serie A for a long time.
In its early years, the team spent a long time in lower divisions, promoted to Serie C2 for the first time in 1984, and wandered in Serie D during the 1990s. In 2006, it was promoted to Serie C1, and in 2008, under the management of Allegri, it won the Serie C1/A group championship and was promoted to Serie B. In the 2012-13 season, Di Francesco led the team to win the Serie B championship, jumping three levels from Serie C2 to Serie A in seven years, with 18-year-old Berardi being named the league's best player.
In the 2013-14 season, the Serie A debut was focused on relegation, with Berardi scoring four goals in a single match against Milan, becoming a classic. In the 2015-16 season, the team finished sixth in Serie A, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. In the 2019-20 season, under the management of De Zerbi, the team set a record with 69 goals in Serie A. In 2021, players like Locatelli and Berardi helped the Italian national team win the UEFA European Championship. In the 2023-24 season, the team was relegated, but in the 2024-25 season, they won the Serie B championship and were immediately promoted back to Serie A.
