In 1988, the club achieved third place in the Honor League for the first time, qualifying for the Primeira Liga. Under the leadership of Manuel Fernandes and Carlos Manuel, the team won the Primeira Liga title in 2000. However, Fernandes left the club in January 2001, but returned in October of the same year.
In 2018, the team ranked second in the league, just behind the Republic team. However, the team then hired a new head coach, João Henriques, and finished in tenth place for two consecutive seasons, achieving a club record of 43 points. In the 2020-21 season, Daniel Ramos replaced the current head coach and led the team to a sixth-place finish in the league, earning qualification for the UEFA Europa League.
