The Slovakia national football team (abbreviated as "Slovakia", English name: Slovakia national football team) was established in 1993 and is managed by the Slovak Football Association as the national level football team.
The development of Slovak football is closely linked to the political changes in this Central European country. After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918, the Czechoslovak national team, formed by Slovakia and the Czech Republic, won the World Cup runner-up twice in 1934 and 1962, showcasing the strong power of Eastern European football. During the special period of World War II, Slovakia briefly participated in international competitions as a puppet state, and this history became a unique chapter in football history.
After gaining independence in 1993, Slovak football entered a new chapter. After more than a decade of effort, they achieved a historic breakthrough at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, not only qualifying for the final tournament for the first time but also causing an upset by defeating the defending champions Italy in the group stage, successfully advancing to the Round of 16. At the 2016 UEFA European Championship, Slovakia once again proved their strength by advancing from the group stage to the knockout phase.
