Team Introduction

Vålerenga Football Club (abbreviated as "Vålerenga", English name: Vålerenga Idrettsforening) was founded on July 29, 1913, and is a football club located in Oslo, Norway.

The club has a glorious history in Norwegian football, especially reaching its peak in the 1980s, during which it won the league championship three times (1981, 1983, 1984) and the Norwegian Cup once (1980). In 1965, Vålerenga first claimed the league championship. The 1990s were a difficult period for the club, oscillating between the top tier and the second tier, and even facing the danger of relegation to the third tier at one point.

2005 was a year of revival for Vålerenga, as they dramatically defeated Stabæk in a fierce championship battle, reclaiming the league title after 21 years and ending Rosenborg's 13-year dominance in the Eliteserien. This championship race is still fondly remembered by Norwegian fans, as Stabæk's unexpected loss in the final round allowed Vålerenga to clinch the title by a narrow margin of 1 point despite drawing with their rivals.

As a traditional powerhouse in Oslo, Vålerenga may not have dominated Norwegian football for as long as Rosenborg, but their tenacity and fluctuating fortunes have earned them the affection of many neutral fans. The club has experienced multiple cycles of relegation and promotion back to the top league.
