Vasco da Gama Rowing Club (abbreviated as "Vasco da Gama", English name: Vasco da Gama Club of Rowing) was founded on August 21, 1898, and is a sports club located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In the 1920s, Brazilian football was dominated by the elite class, and Vasco was marginalized for fielding black, mixed-race, and poor players. In 1925, the team returned to the elite league, promoting inclusivity in Brazilian football. From 1945 to 1952, Vasco entered the "Victory Express" era, winning the Rio State Championship five times in eight years, and in 1948, they won the South American Championship, becoming the first intercontinental club champion. In 1957, they achieved ten consecutive victories in a European tour, defeating Real Madrid 4-3 and winning against Barcelona 7-2, becoming one of the top clubs in the world at that time.
In 2000, they won the Southern Common Market Cup final by coming back to defeat Palmeiras 4-3, and also won the João Havelange Cup, becoming the fourth team to win the Brazilian National League. In 2008, the team was relegated to the Brazilian Serie B for the first time, but returned to Serie A as champions of Serie B in 2009. In 2011, Vasco went undefeated to win their first Brazilian Cup title, a year referred to as the "Year of Redemption," and the following year they reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores.
In February 2022, the American investment company 777 Partners acquired 70% of the club for $330 million. In November of the same year, Vasco returned to Serie A as the fourth team in Serie B. In 2023, they finished 15th in the Brazilian Serie A, and in 2024, they improved their ranking to 10th place.
