Viking Football Club (abbreviated as "Viking", English name: Viking FK) was established in 1899 and is a football club located in Stavanger.
Viking holds the record for more than five league championships, making it one of the most successful clubs in the history of the Norwegian Premier League. The club briefly left the top league stage during the 1966-67 and 1987-88 seasons. The 1950s marked Viking's first golden era, with legendary goalkeeper Sverre Andersen leading the team to its first league championship in 1958. They achieved four consecutive league titles from 1972 to 1975 and became domestic double champions in 1979. Midfield core Olav Nilsen became an iconic figure of that era, affectionately known by fans as "Olav of Viking."
The classic battle in the 2002-03 UEFA Cup where Viking eliminated Chelsea made the name of Viking resonate throughout European football. Viking is known for its stable youth training system, having developed many excellent players, including current Norwegian internationals.
