West Ham United Football Club (abbreviated as "West Ham"; English name: West Ham United F.C.) was founded in 1895. Its full name is West Ham United Football Club, and it is commonly referred to by fans as West Ham. It is a professional football club located in North London, England, nicknamed "The Hammers." The club was originally named Thames Ironworks Football Club, which was the largest and last surviving shipyard on the River Thames. It announced its dissolution in 1900 and immediately established West Ham United Football Club.
Joined the Football League Second Division in 1919 and reached the FA Cup final for the first time in 1923. This match, known as the "White Horse Final," is famous for the 200,000 spectators who flocked to Wembley Stadium. Won the inaugural Football League War Cup in 1940.
In 1964, they won the FA Cup for the first time, and in 1965, they claimed the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 1966, the England team won the World Cup, with captain Bobby Moore, goalscorer Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters all coming from West Ham's youth academy. Hurst also set the record for the most goals in a World Cup final with his hat-trick, and the three became club legends. They won the FA Cup again in 1975 and in 1980, becoming the last non-top-flight team to achieve this honor to date. In the 1985-86 season, they achieved their best-ever top-flight league finish (third).
