Reading Football Club (abbreviated as "Reading", English name: Reading F.C.) was founded in 1871 and is a professional football club located in Salford, Manchester, England.
In the 2005-06 season, 135 years after its establishment, the team won the Championship with a record 106 points, achieving promotion to the Premier League for the first time in history. In their first Premier League season after promotion, Reading achieved a comeback victory against Middlesbrough in their opening match, marking a successful start.
Reading has experienced two promotions and relegations in the Premier League: their first journey lasted two years before relegation in 2008, and they won the Championship again in the 2011-12 season to be promoted, but were relegated back to the Championship a year later. In recent years, the club has faced financial difficulties, being deducted points for violating financial rules for two consecutive seasons, ultimately relegating to League One in the 2022-23 season, and again being deducted points in the 2023-24 season due to salary payment issues.
Reading has also had outstanding performances in cup competitions, reaching the semifinals of the FA Cup, and has a lion mascot named 'Kingsley'.
