Palmeiras Sports Club (abbreviated as "Palmeiras", in English: Palmeiras) primarily competes in the Brazilian Serie A and is based in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The club was founded in 1914 by four Italian immigrants from the Italian-speaking area of the city of São Paulo, originally named the Italian Gymnastics Sports Club, and was renamed Palmeiras in 1942.
