Stoke City Football Club (commonly referred to as "Stoke City", in English: Stoke City F.C.) was founded in 1863 and is a professional football club based in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
Stoke City has long competed in the top tier of English football, but after being relegated in 1985, it experienced a 23-year spell in lower divisions until returning to the Premier League as runners-up in the 2007/08 season. After being promoted to the Premier League, the team was once stable in mid-table and reached the FA Cup final in 2011, finishing as runners-up, which also secured them a place in the UEFA Europa League, where they successfully advanced from the group stage. In the 2017/18 season, the team's performance declined, and they were ultimately relegated to the Championship, where they have been competing ever since.
